Welcome BACK!

August 5, 2018

Dear King High School Family,

I am writing to introduce myself in my new role as Principal of King High. While teaching Science and Careers here for the past two years, I learned a great deal and have fallen in love with the King students and community. I feel privileged to be entrusted with leading such a special school into its next chapter and want to share a little bit about myself and my vision for King.

I was raised in the foothills of Amador County, but have lived in Davis for over half of my life, and did a lot of my growing up in this supportive community. Before teaching I worked as a Wildlife Biologist until returning to UC Davis to earn my credential and a Masters of Education in 2010. Prior to working in the DJUSD, I taught science and academic intervention courses in West Sacramento for seven years. During that time, I also founded programs to serve Foster and Homeless youth, and discovered an appreciation for the world of alternative education. As most of you know, I have taught at King for the past two years. I live here in town with my husband and our two young children (three-year-old daughter and one-year-old son), who keep us on our toes and love visiting King High.

One of the things I value most about King is the connectedness of our King family. Previous leadership, staff, students, and parents did incredible work to cultivate and nurture our community. I plan to follow this example of leading with kindness, flexibility, compassion, and our shared belief that each student is capable of greatness. King is unique: we have diverse and fascinating students, a committed and highly skilled staff, and resources to provide small class sizes, a variety of credit-earning opportunities, and socioemotional and academic support individualized to every student. As your Principal, I am committed to our unique school spirit and continuing to improve our program toward the relevant and future-focused education our students deserve.

Our students are successful when they are “Present, Positive, and Productive,” and our staff is committed to providing the support necessary to help your student exhibit the “3 P’s.” Please know that you are an important part of the team and we value your partnership. Do not hesitate to call or email if you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions throughout the year.

The first day of school is Wednesday, August 29. New students will attend orientation August 29 and August 30; returning students will begin classes right away on August 29. Please save the date for our Back to School Night on Wednesday, September 12. I am very much looking forward to working with you and your student this year!
